Secret Gardens

The rear garden is truly a hidden garden room. A focal point is a  boxwood-edged diamond  planted with a stunning princess flower standard and  defined by four "The Fairy" rose standards and lambs ears.  A magnolia displays saucer sized flowers in February-March and presents stunning chartreuse foliage until leaves drop in winter.  The herb garden provides fresh herbs for cooking and drying.  The gated entrance, arch, and tower, support climbing roses and clematis, a wisteria floribunda is colorful and fragrant in early spring, and in June-July  laburnums display bright golden chains of flowers along the back fence.  A variety of climbing roses cover the fences and rocked borders are planted with hardy geraniums, agapanthus "Storm Cloud", red valerian, hydrangeas, and other bulbs and perennials.

Our secret garden lies within our rooftop deck above the cottage.  Here, copper planters and terra cotta containers, overflow with herbaceous perennials and grasses, roses, bamboo, and fragrant lemon and lime trees. The Claire Jacquier rose, planted down below has grown up to the second story and is trained around two thirds of the deck fence, imparting its incredible perfume when in bloom.  Enjoy!
